The Centre welcomes participation by national and international scholars in the Centre's research activities.

Visiting scholars can take advantage of the Centre's interdisciplinary approach to the study of Islam's role in the region.

Fellowships are available for one month to one year.


Six to eight months before your proposed visit, apply by email to the Director, Centre for Muslim States and Societies, including:

  • curriculum vitae
  • research proposal of 5 to 8 pages long
  • proposed timeline with activities to be undertaken
  • names and contact details of two referees
  • information on funding of your stay at the UWA. You may be eligible to apply for Endeavour Australia Awards

Visiting scholars are expected to participate in the activities of the Centre, present one research seminar and a public lecture on their area of research.

Depending on the time scholars are with the Centre, fellows are expected to prepare publications, providing due recognition to the Centre.
