Model UN at the Fairway Summer School

A Model UN simulation was recently held by the Centre for Muslim States and Societies for the Fairway Summer School. The students were faced with a challenging problem, how to resolve the conflict in Syria.

The students had the task of representing a selection of nations in a simulation of the Geneva II Conference, with the aim of creating a peaceful resolution to the Syrian conflict. After an introduction, the students were asked to familiarize themselves with their respective countries, discuss the issue at hand and then come to a formal position.

Each group would then elect a speaker who would present their country's position to the Conference. The students came up with some insightful and refreshing suggestions for the conflict, though overall it was a lighthearted and fun afternoon for all involved.
