Pakistan High Commissioner to Canberra

To give a special lecture

Pakistan and the Regional Security Environment

Pakistan has emerged as a significant player in the War on Terror. It has aligned itself with the United States in countering terrorism, and controlling militancy in the region. However, increasingly it has been asked to shoulder greater responsibility in controlling Taliban's infiltration across the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. HE Mr Jilani will present his analysis of the situation with a special focus on the ground situation.

HE Mr Jilani joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1979. Since then he has held various diplomatic assignments including Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, United States, and India. Before arriving in Australia, he was serving as Director General South Asia and SAARC. He also served as the Pakistan Government's spokesman on Foreign Affairs from February-August 2005.
