Dr Adeel Khan

Dr Adeel Khan is a Lecturer in the School of Humanities, in the Faculty of Arts; and also lectures in the School of Health in the Faculty of the Professions at UNE. Adeel is a political sociologist, with special interest in social theory and critical thinking. He holds a Masters degree in Communication  (University of Canberra, Australia) and a PhD in Sociology (University of Wollongong, Australia).

Adeel’s research interests include issues of identity, ethnicity, nationalism, fundamentalism, gender-based violence and role of the modern state, on which he has given scores of papers at international conferences and guest lectures at various universities. Adeel has authored a book, Politics of Identity: Ethnic Nationalism and the State in Pakistan (Sage Publications, 2005) and has widely published in various international journals. Between 2005-07, he undertook a research  project funded by the Ford Foundation  and sponsored by Jawaharlal Nehru University's (New Delhi) Project on ‘Dialogue on Democracy and Pluralism in South Asia’.
