THE VOICE OF AUSTRALIAN MUSLIMS
A Roundtable Deliberation on Muslims in Australia
Join
us for a forum discussion to be held on
Sunday, 4th February 2007, 9.30am-1.00pm at the
Centre
for Muslim States
and Societies, University of Western
Australia,
35
Stirling Highway, Crawley,
Social Sciences Lecture Room 1
A Light Lunch will be provided at the
conclusion of the workshop
This workshop aims to survey
the views of Western Australian Muslims on the cultural, social and political
climate in Australian society today.
Conducted by Issues
Deliberation Australia/America in conjunction with the Centre for Muslim States
and Societies, University of WA, this workshop will be one of a series to be
held around the Nation that will culminate in a National Deliberative Poll (DP)
‘Australia Deliberates—Muslims &
Non-Muslims in Australia: Building Relationships?’, to be held in Canberra
2nd-4th March 2007.
These Forums aim to facilitate
the voice of Muslim Australians—while
the National DP—with a randomly selected group of about 400 Australian
citizens—aims to facilitate the voice of all
Australians.
They are designed to bring
together a representative selection of Muslim Australians to voice their views and
experiences of living in Australia and to ensure that the “informed voice” of Muslim Australians is represented at this
National Deliberative Poll. Some Forum participants will then have the
opportunity to be selected to attend the National DP in Canberra.
It is hoped that outcomes of
the Deliberative Poll might guide Government on any future changes to policy on
immigration, education, employment and multiculturalism.
IDA has convened several other
Deliberative Polls in previous years including ‘Australia Deliberates: A Republic
Yes or No?’ and ‘Australia Deliberates: Reconciliation—Where from Here?’.
Information about these and IDA’s other work can be obtained by visiting our
website: www.ida.org.au
So please consider coming
along—WE
NEED YOUR VOICE and you just might be chosen to attend the National
Deliberative Poll in Canberra.
We are therefore looking for 30-50 WA Muslims who would like to participate in this forum. Attendees will receive a small token of thanks from IDA on the day for
participating.
